Biography
Herbert Julius Kubatzky was born on 12 April 1907 in Berlin as the son of Hermann Julius Kubatzky and his wife Rosa, née Arndt.
He studied engineering at Berlin University, where he was also a member of a student fraternity. He loved fencing.
In 1934, he fled to Palestine, where his parents arrived three years later. Thanks to his good knowledge of Arabic, he found a job there with the Iraq Petroleum Company as chief communications engineer. He married Katherine Davidoff. The couple had two children, David and Rosy.
In the 1950s, the family moved to Los Angeles in the USA.
