Her parents were Auguste and Lesser Hertz. They had two brothers, Emil and Henry. Johanna and Alice Hertz neither had any children and lived together as sisters in Berlin- Schlachtensee at Ahrenshoop Zeile 43, their last freely chosen place of residence.
They were worried early on that all their assets would be taken away from them. They gave it to their long-time domestic worker, Mrs. Wodarzig, and her daughter Liselotte.
On September 25, 1942, Alice and Johanna Hertz, then 70 and 63 years old, were given the “67th birthday”. “Transport for the Elderly” from Berlin to the Theresienstadt concentration camp. Alice Hertz died there on December 4, 1942, Johanna Hertz was transported from Theresienstadt to the Auschwitz extermination camp on October 23, 1944.
