Biography
During the years prior to her deportation, Margarete Cohn, nee Lutze, lived at Thomasiusstraße 26. She and her husband, Julius, were sub-tenants at the home of Kurt and Irma Marcus, renting a room with a shared kitchen. The Marcuses were the main tenants of the 6-bedroom apartment, which had been converted into a so-called Jew apartment.
We do not know if Margarete Cohn had a profession, but we do know she had to do slave labor in Wernerwerk at the Siemens factory from May 14, 1940 till February 27, 1943.
On March 2, 1943 Margarete Cohn was deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau extermination camp and then murdered. Her husband Julius was deported there the next day.
