Heinrich and Flora Kapellner ran a children's home in Potsdam until mid-1936 and were planning to move to Hermannstraße in Zehlendorf when Heinrich died unexpectedly.

Together with her sister Alice Goldschmidt, Flora ran the private children's home at Hermannstraße 11 from autumn 1936 until the beginning of 1942, where her two daughters Ingeborg and Nora also lived.
At the beginning of 1942, the children's home, in which more than 40 children were looked after for a short or long period of time, was closed and the tenancy agreement cancelled.
